If you have access to the Admin Console, you can review and add new break patterns for your company.
Break patterns allow Rotageek to know what break to give to an employee for the length of their shift. You can also choose per pattern if the breaks are paid or unpaid and if they need to be timed.
Navigate to the Admin Console and select ‘Break Patterns’
The first page will give you a list of all the current break patterns. If you want to review one, simply click onto the specific pattern.
This will open up a modal that will show you all the information on the specific pattern.
To create a new pattern, click Add Break Pattern in the top right hand corner.
This will open up a new modal. Here, you need to name your break pattern.
Once named, you can choose the location or locations that need to have access to the pattern. If your company uses contract types, you can also specify the contract types that should receive the pattern here.
If you want this pattern to be used as default, tick the box.
It will then ask you to select your first break rule.
To start, you need to choose the shift duration for the rule. A break will be given when the shift duration is exactly the value stated, or higher. For example, if the shift gets a break after six hours, and not on the six hour mark, you would put 6 hours 1 minute in. A 6 hour shift would be given a 0 minute break, but a 6 hour 15 shift would be given a break.
You then want to specify the duration of the break and if the break is paid or unpaid.
If you want to use timed breaks, toggle ‘on’ to specify a minimum and maximum time before break and a minimum time after break.
Minimum time before break is the earliest the break can start relative to the shift time.
Maximum time before break is the latest the break can start relative to the shift time. This can be the same as the minimum is there is only one time.
Minimum time after break is the time the break can be taken before the end of the shift.
Example One:
Below is an example where the break will always fall at the same time:
This example is for a 7 hour shift, receiving a 30 minute break. If the shift is, for example, a 10am-5pm shift, with the timed break rules in place, this would allow for the break to fall:
After 3hrs 15mins, from 1.15pm.
Before 3hrs 15mins of the end of the shift, before 1.45pm.
This means the break will always be scheduled at 1.15pm-1.45pm on a 10am-5pm shift.
Example Two:
Below is an example where the break could fall between a time period:
This example is for a 7 hour shift, receiving a 30 minute break. If the shift is, for example, a 10am-5pm shift, with the timed break rules in place, this would allow for the break to fall:
After 2 hours, from 12pm.
Within 5 hours of the shift starting, so from 10am-3pm
Before 2 hours of the end of the shift, before 3pm.
This means the break could be scheduled on Rotageek anywhere between 12pm and 3pm.
You can also show more details.
This allows you to enter a minimum and maximum age applicable to the break rule.
If needed, you can also restrict to shifts that start between certain times. This allows you to specify different break patterns between day and night shifts if needed.
If you have multiple rules for a break pattern e.g. for shifts over 8 hours, you can do this by using the 'Add another break rule' and complete the steps again.
Once done, click save and this will be added to your list of break patterns.
